June 24, 2016 (Bridgehampton, NY) – Art Hamptons opened its 9th edition on June 23, 2016, returning as the area’s longest running fine art fair and kicking off the summer art and social season with its annual First Look and VIP Opening Night Preview. Nearly 2,000 attendees representing the pillars of Hamptons society and art patronage filled the 40,000 sq. ft. tented pavilion – located on the estate grounds of Maria and Kenneth Fishel – to get a preview of the 56 exhibitors from 11 countries, presenting works of modern and contemporary art.
The 9th edition’s exclusive First Look event benefited LongHouse Reserve and the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation, “We are very grateful to Art Hamptons for their continued support for our work,” said Samuel Waxman, M.D., Founder and CEO of the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation. “Marion and I, along with Maria and Kenneth Fishel, are proud to be on the Art Hamptons Host Committee and greatly appreciate being named a beneficiary of the Opening Night Preview.” Welcoming remarks were also presented by Frank Newbold, Regional Manager of Art Hamptons Premier Sponsor, Sotheby’s International Realty, “We have always believed that extraordinary art is best enjoyed in an extraordinary home…” greeted Frank, “As such, we are thrilled to participate as the premier sponsor of Art Hamptons for the third consecutive year.”
After the Official Ribbon Cutting and Welcoming Remarks, Back Card ticket holders and guests of Modern Luxury’s Beach Magazine enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and sipped on specialty cocktails at a private reception hosted by the magazine, while supporting sponsors U.S. Trust, Geoffrey Nimmer Landscapes, Tate’s Bakeshop and Flowerbox Wall Gardens provided the perfect backdrop to the evening and the art on show.
Exhibitors indicated high optimism for the weekend with numerous connections made and a number of sales confirmed. Galleries; Contempop Gallery (Tel Aviv), SPiN Galleries (New York & Singapore) and the Emmanuel Fremin Gallery (New York) along with others, saw multiple opening night sales and additional holds, with Fernando Luis Alvarez selling three pieces within 15 minutes of the fair’s opening. John Andrulis, of Urban Gallery (Philadelphia) also noted that East Hampton based painter William Quigley was impressed by the paintings of featured artist, 30-year old Manhattan native Dana James, whose large, colorful abstracts are paired with vibrant, material-influenced pieces by her Brooklyn studio mate and SVA (2008) classmate Daniel John Gadd. After a strong opening evening, the remainder of the weekend shows no signs of slowing down, with the fair’s various public and VIP programming expecting full capacity.
Art Hamptons is now open to the general public through to Sunday, June 26, with special programming and events scheduled throughout. Visit Art Hampton’s website for a full listing.
